OXFORD, Miss. — For the first four weeks last year, it looked like business as usual for Ole Miss, which began its national title defense by racing out to a 14-2 start during nonconference play, a stretch that included a 3-1 record against future Big Ten champion Maryland and a quality midweek win against Southern Miss. As the Rebels entered SEC play in mid-March, nobody would have guessed that their season had already peaked.
