Adam Eaton credits Capitals for game-tying homer

The Washington Nationals and the Washington Capitals were playing at the same time on Saturday, and that appeared to work in both of their favors. The Capitals faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series, a contest that needed overtime to decide the victor. Less than two minutes into the extra period, Caps defenseman Brooks Orpik scored the winner for Washington. Coincidentally, the goal came just moments before Washington Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning of the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates just two miles away. The Nats would also go on to win by the final of 3-2. Eaton said afterwards that he heard the cheers from the Washington crowd after the Caps scored in the middle of his at-bat, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports. We saw some great crossover between the two Washington teams when the Caps won it all last year, and it’s obvious that they feed off each other’s energy.
