Gunners fans were looking on with concern in the ninth minute when Alexandre Lacazette went down in agony.

The French striker was taken out by Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

In a poorly timed attempt at winning the ball, Mitrovic stamped on Lacazette as the forward started an Arsenal attack.

It’s worth noting that Mitrovic took out Lacazette with a challenge from behind.

Moreover, referee Paul Tierney had a perfect view of the Mitrovic foul.

Yet, almost incredibly, ref Tierney simply waved ‘play on’.

Not only did Mitrovic avoid a dismissal, the Serbian striker wasn’t even booked.

Fortunately Lacazette was fine to continue playing.

The Arsenal attacker broke the deadlock in the 29th minute for Unai Emery’s side.

Lacazette collected a Nacho Monreal pass in the box, swivelled, and fired into the near post.

The Wilfried Zaha treatment

The Mitrovic foul on Lacazette was a lot like what happened to Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha earlier this season at Watford.

Back in August, Zaha was taken out by a horrible Etienne Capoue foul.

Capoue should have been sent off for a cynical foul on Zaha from behind.

Capoue makes very little effort to go for the ball and his dangerous challenge could have seriously injured Zaha.

Capoue was only shown a yellow card.
