Andre Schurrle refutes Fulham exit claims: ‘Not even close to what I said’

Fulham loanee Andre Schurrle has moved to clarify claims that he will depart the club at the end of the season, in the case that the Cottagers are relegated to the Championship.

Schurrle’s Premier League stint

German attacker Schurrle made the move to Craven Cottage from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

In an unusual deal, the 28-year-old had joined Fulham on a two-year loan.

And Schurrle has since gone on to play an integral role for Claudio Ranieri’s side, starting in 20 of the capital outfit’s 25 Premier League fixtures to this point in the campaign.

Fulham struggles

However, while the experienced German international has done his part, Fulham, as a team, have struggled.

The Londoners currently sit second-bottom of the Premier League table with just 17 points, a full 7 points adrift of Burnley in 17th.

As such, with relegation to the Championship looking increasingly-likely for Ranieri’s side as the weeks pass, questions have begun to mount regarding whether or not Schurrle could look to cut his loan at Craven Cottage short in the summer.

And the question marks surrounding the gifted attacker’s future were subsequently followed by direct quotes, purported to have been from Schurrle himself, in German newspaper Kicker yesterday, in which the former Chelsea man confirmed that he will indeed depart Fulham at the end of the season, in the case that the club are relegated:

‘No (I won’t stay if Fulham go down). My loan (agreement) would end with relegation and my contract with Dortmund would be active again.’

‘Not even close’

However, Schurrle has since taken to Twitter to definitively deny making such statements this evening, insisting that he was mistranslated, and affirming his commitment to the Fulham cause:

‘It is not even close to what I said. Just very bad translating.’

‘Let’s stick together and fight ’til the end.’
