Two grand slams helped carry No. 5 Texas to a 16-0 rout over No. 8 UCLA on the road in Westwood.

The impressive offensive feat of multiple grand slams in one game had only been done a total of twice in Texas’ program history entering Saturday’s game and has not been done by the Longhorns since Taylor Thom hit two slams in one game on Feb. 16, 2013, in a 15-0 win over Houston.
For just the third time in program history, the Texas offense has hit multiple grand slams in the same game:
Feb. 10, 2023 at UCLA – Mia Scott, Vivi Martinez
Feb. 16, 2013 vs. Houston – Taylor Thom (2x)
March 28, 2012 vs. Houston – Karina Scott, Mandy Ogle#HookEm pic.twitter.com/zjtiaW3MKB— Texas Softball (@TexasSoftball) February 11, 2024
Mia Scott got the long ball party started in the top of the 2nd when her grand slam extended the Texas lead to 5-0. Scott would finish the day 2-3 with a game-high 6 RBIs including the big 4-run swing.
Viviana Martinez wanted in on the hit parade. One inning after Scott’s slam, Martinez connected on her first home run of the season to extend Texas’ lead to 7. A perfect 4-for-4 on the night, Martinez’s biggest swing came in the fourth when she launched her second homer of the night — a grand slam of her own — to put the game out of reach at 11-0 and in position for a run-rule shortened game.
While we wait for UCLA to make another pitching change, let’s flash back to 2⃣3⃣’s grand slam earlier in this game. 🤘#HookEm | @vivicmartinez23 pic.twitter.com/IHZWA0OH3P

While the offensive performance provided more than enough wiggle for starter Texas Citlaly Gutierrez, she put together a strong performance herself. The righty went five strong shutout innings, surrendering four hits and notching four strikeouts against a potent UCLA offense that scored seven runs in their first game on Saturday afternoon, a 7-6 win over San Diego. Gutierrez earned the win and is off to a strong start in the 2024 campaign.
Texas improves to a perfect 4-0 on the season and continues its California road trip against Loyola-Marymount on Sunday afternoon.
