Rob Holding is still injured and both Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny are getting on in years.

Shkodran Mustafi is still available to the Gunners but he isn’t exactly a top-four central defender.

Arsenal have been linked with William Saliba but even if they do get him, it looks as though he will be loaned back to St-Etienne for the forthcoming season.

Koscielny then threw a spanner in Arsenal’s transfer plans earlier this week when he refused to travel with the Gunners for their preseason tour.

Reports have emerged that Koscielny wants to leave Arsenal for free and return to France.

Arsenal will reportedly open up disciplinary proceedings against the Frenchman.

Benfica standout

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are looking at Benfica’s Ruben Dias as a potential replacement for Koscielny.

Arsenal are already said to have considered a move for Dias at the start of this current window, as per the Mail.

Dias is belived to have a release clause of £54m.

The centre-back featured 55 times across all competitions last season for Benfica, in which he scored five and assisted four.

Despite being just 22, Dias is proving himself to be one of the top defenders in Portugal.
