Arsenal’s £25m William Saliba transfer & £40m budget
The London Evening Standard have an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of St Etienne defender William Saliba on Monday.
It’s almost been a month since L’Equipe reported that Arsenal have “found a contractual agreement” with 18-year-old centre-half Saliba.
However, at the time of writing, neither the Gunners nor Les Verts have confirmed the transfer.
There seem to be two sticking points.
Firstly, the transfer fee. Secondly, St Etienne want to keep Saliba on loan next season.
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal could sign Saliba for 25 million pounds. Arsenal are looking to make the payment as follows:
The Gunners are seeking to make a small initial payment this summer given Saliba will not be available to represent the club for another 12 months, a move which would also enable them to keep the vast majority of their modest £40m transfer budget for other targets.
#afc are continuing to edge closer to a deal for William Saliba. Saint-Etienne remain adamant he’ll stay with them on loan for 2019-20 but one advantage of that would be a smaller initial payment which wouldn’t eat into #afc’s transfer budget as much. https://t.co/jJBPulfUGp

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney
If Arsenal manage to sign Saliba and retain their 40 million pound transfer budget, will the Gunners finally sign Kieran Tierney from Celtic?
The Evening Standard aren’t convinced as readers are told:
Arsenal remain interested in a deal for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney but have so far shown no willingness to match the Scottish champions’ £25m valuation.
Napoli are also linked with a possible move for Tierney.
Moreover, reports on Monday morning suggested that Arsenal could turn their attention to AC Milan’s Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez.
Ricardo Rodriguez is thought to be available for 14 million pounds.
