Dani Ceballos defends Arsenal’s Elneny after being mocked over video of his 20 second cameo

    Dani Ceballos defends Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny after being mocked over a viral video of his 20 second cameo against West Ham.

    The Real Madrid midfielder has a message of support to his former teammate with Elneny seen coming off the bench, ran about a bit and then the full time whistle blew.

    Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah all got on the scoresheet as the Gunners came back after going behind to the Hammers to remain top of the Premier League.

    Spirits were high around the Emirates with footage showing the noise levels from the crowd, Thomas Partey came off for Elneny, who didn’t have a chance to touch the ball.

    One user, @ClockEndH, wrote for the video: ‘Mohamed Elneny – Incredible Midfield Cameo | Next Pirlo? | 1080p’ which and it’s since had millions of views.

    It caught the attention of ex-Gunner and current Real Madrid midfielder Ceballos who said: “Incredible professional, incredible teammate. [Need] More players like that in football. A luxury player for the Arsenal.”

    Ceballos had a two year stint at the north London outfit between 2019 and 2021 while on loan from Real Madrid, lifting an FA Cup with Elneny back in 2020.

    The message of support should be a huge boost in confidence for Elneny, who had so far played just six times this season, hoping that he can play as much a part in his side’s title challenge as impossible.

    Back in April 2022, Mikel Arteta described Mohamed Elneny as one of Arsenal’s most important and underrated players both on and off the pitch.

    ‘For what he does when you give him the chance to play and for the things that he does when he doesn’t play.

    ‘He’s a phenomenal person and a great footballer that sometimes doesn’t get the credit he deserves.’

    The player had been out of contract at the end of the 2021/22 season and came very close to leaving the club in the January 2022 transfer window.

    ‘We’re going to have a conversation at the end of the season to see what we do but I’m really happy with him,’ Arteta added.

    ‘He understood that with the squad that we had at the moment [in January] I could not let another player leave.

    ‘It’s a tough balance because he’s in a period in his career where he’s looking to extend his football life but at the same time, he could be an important of the team for the last part of the season.’

    Committed to The Arsenal

    We’re delighted to announce Mo Elneny has signed a new deal

    — Arsenal (@Arsenal) May 25, 2022

    In the summer of 2022, Elneny signed a new contract at Arsenal, after becoming a key part of the first-team in the latter part of the season.

    “I love this club and I feel like part of this family,” Elneny told the club’s website.

    “I want to continue at this amazing club and amazing family and I’m very happy and very excited for the future.”

    “Mo is a really important part of the team,” said manager Mikel Arteta.

    “He brings endless energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the team and is loved by everyone. He’s an important player for us on and off the pitch, a real role model to our younger players and I’m delighted he’s staying.”

    This is what fans had to say as Dani Ceballos defends Arsenal’s Elneny after being mocked over a video of his 20 second cameo…

    @1818Calum: Look at Xhaka’s appreciation to him at the end. Players understand a man like Elneny’s value, such a good member to have around the squad. Arteta has managed it so so well.

    @ClifChigumira: I like that he knew where he has to play. Instructed Xhaka to mb up field as he took the DM position.

    @MaseTMT: I didn’t see him give the ball away at all….couldn’t ask for a better performance 10/10 5* would watch again

    @craiging619: Found the pockets of space constantly. West Ham had no answer for him.

    @Jackisthetruth: Laugh all you want but he’s a true professional

    @PattyPatin0: Getting that appearance bonus

    @inceh17: Doesn’t put a foot wrong

    @kingarnoldde3rd: Players get bonuses for every games they play, including cameo like this. This is how managers award players for working hard during practice and training sections

    @Rain_Check_101: 100% pass completion rate and lost possesion 0 times. Your goat could never

    @ArsenalGoldEPL: Disrespectful sub. Should have brought him on 5 or so minutes ago. Deserves better.

    @jean3107_jean31: Got to respect Mo He never complains and does what the manager wants him to do. You won’t see many players like him

    @amasamsam: Love him .. Elneny what a guy , what a professional, no complains , just wanna help the team anyhow , whether it’s 1sec on the pitch or 1000 secs .. he just goes on about his job , much respect

    @Sir_ussy001: I swear you people are wicked

    @ryan_hawkins98: Mikel clearly didn’t want him to get his unused sub bonus
