The World Cup semi-finalist has opted to watch the Championship clash over Liverpool’s Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
Southgate’s assistant, Steve Holland, meanwhile will also be in attendance for a Championship clash; Aston Villa vs Rotherham United.
Derby County vs Blackburn Rovers: Mason Mount on the radar
Gareth Southgate is understood to have opted to head to Pride Park over Anfield this evening to watch Mason Mount.
The Chelsea loanee has impressed during his time in the North under Frank Lampard.
Mount has netted four goals in nine appearances for the Rams since arriving from West London.
Southgate’s decision is poignant for the direction of English football with the national team now looking for the next generation.
Aston Villa vs Rotherham United: Jack Grealish for England?
Steve Holland will be keeping an eye on Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish this evening against Rotherham United.
The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.
England take on Spain and Croatia next month in the UEFA Nations League.
Despite both big clashes, Southgate refused to rule out selecting lower league players.
“The reality is we can’t rule out Championship players because the numbers suggest we have not to close the door to anything.”
