The Regular Season in Eurocup just started. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

French Monaco defeated Spanish Andorra at home 82-66. The game was mostly controlled by Monaco. Andorra managed to win third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Monaco dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Andorra’s 24. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Bulgarian point guard Dee Bost (188-89, college: Mississippi St.) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward J.J. O’Brien (200-92, college: San Diego St.) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese-Spanish center Moussa Diagne (211-94, agency: Interperformances) answered with 11 points and 6 rebounds for Andorra. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Andorra will play next round against ratiopharm Ulm trying to get back on the winning streak. Monaco will try to continue on its current victory against Promitheas in Patras.

Rishon will play against Virtus BO in Bologna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Virtus BO will meet at home Rishon (#4) in the next round. ratiopharm Ulm will play against Andorra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
We should not miss anothera road victory of Serbian Partizan NIS (1-0) over Italian Umana Venezia (0-1) 66-63. Umana Venezia was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. Rashawn Thomas fired a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Partizan NIS’s next round opponent will be Tofas in Bursa and it will be for sure the game of the week. Umana Venezia will play on the road against Lokomotiv in Krasnodar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
And finally the game worth to mention about is Darussafaka’s victory against Cedevita Olimpija 79-73. It was a very good performance for Bonzie Colson-Jr who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Darussafaka will face JSF Nanterre at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cedevita Olimpija will play against Unics Kazan (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant.
In Group B winless Limoges lost to undefeated Tofas on the road 71-84. Rytas won against Lokomotiv on its own court 92-86.
In Group C winless Unics lost to undefeated Brescia in a road game 75-84. Nanterre managed to beat Joventut at home 85-78.
In Group D Galatasaray defeated Trento on the opponent’s court 70-64. Winless EWE Baskets lost to undefeated Asseco Arka in a home game 74-78. Winless Buducnost lost to undefeated Unicaja on the road 70-83.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 19 points by Volodymyr Herun of Unicaja.

GROUP A

Rishon – Promitheas 55-88

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Israeli Rishon (0-1) in Rishon Le-Zion. Hosts were rolled over by Greek Promitheas (1-0) 88-55. The game without a history. Promitheas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Promitheas outrebounded Rishon 45-32 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Promitheas brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-11. But Umana Venezia won second period 15-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 25 personal fouls committed by Umana Venezia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Quite impressive season as he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA Domestic Player of the Year, named to 2nd Team and named to All-Domestic Players Team.
In 2014 he was drafted by Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) in second round (53rd overall).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Gentile’s team won Greek Cup in 2017. He was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA U22 Player of the Year back in 2014.
Gentile has been also a member of Italian international program for some years. He has regularly played for Italian senior team since 2013 and previously for U20 National Team between 2010 and 2011.
Gentile also represented Italy at the European Championships four years ago. His stats at that event were 8 games: Score-5 (16.8ppg), 4.8rpg, 3.3apg, FGP: 50.6%, 3PT: 36.0%, FT: 82.9%.
Gentile has played also professionally in Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Greece (Panathinaikos) and Italy (Benetton Treviso).
He could be described: A player with great versatility, whose future is probably at the SG position. Knows yet how to score and has great personality, needs to improve his defensive skills.
