27-year old guard Klemen Prepelic (191-G-92) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Joventut and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 3 (Top 16).
He had the game-high 37 points adding two rebounds and seven assists for Joventut in his team’s victory, helping them to edge out Tofas (2-1) 88-84. The game was between two of the league’s top four teams. Joventut maintains the 3rd position in EuroCup . They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost that single game earlier this stage. Joventut will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. In the team’s last game Prepelic had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Joventut’s top player in his first season with the team. Prepelic has impressive league stats. He is league’s best scorer averaging so far 17.9ppg. Prepelic is in league’s top in and averages solid 56.1% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Sammy Mejia (199-SG-83) of league’s second-best Tofas. He is American guard in his second season at Tofas. In the last game Mejia recorded impressive 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Tofas was edged by Joventut (2-1) 88-84. The Top 16 is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let’s wait for the next round. Mejia is well-known at Tofas and he already established his position as one of the team’s leaders.

Third place about best performers goes to center Octavius Ellis (208-C-93) of Promitheas (#3). Ellis scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Despite Ellis’ great performance Promitheas lost 68-70 to #2 ranked Venezia. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Ellis has a very solid season. In 12 games in EuroCup he scored 10.8ppg. He also has 6.3rpg, 1.1bpg and FGP: 70.6%.

Trento – Virtus BO 67-73

The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-13. But Trento won second period 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Virtus BO looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for Serbian point guard Milos Teodosic (195-87) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 5 assists. American power forward Julian Gamble (208-89, college: Miami, FL) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Virtus BO’s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian-Italian point guard Andres Forray (187-86) answered with 24 points and point guard Aaron Craft (188-91, college: Ohio St.) added 9 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for Trento.

The game was mostly controlled by Unics Kazan. Galatasaray was better in third quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American guard Jamar Smith (191-87, college: S.Indiana, agency: Inception Sports) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 8 assists. American-Israeli center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. New Zealand guard Tai Webster (193-95, college: Nebraska) answered with 22 points and 4 assists and American forward Alex Poythress (203-93, college: Kentucky) added 13 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Galatasaray.
