26-year old guard Jordan Loyd (193-G-93, agency: Inception Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for Valencia and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 7.
He had the game-high 27 points adding five rebounds and eight assists for Valencia as his team lost the game against Panathinaikos (#9, 4-3) 80-91. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Valencia already lost 6 games and recorded just one victory. In the team’s last game Loyd had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Valencia’s top player in his first season with the team. Jordan Loyd averages this season 13.8ppg.

Second best performed player last round was Shane Larkin (180-PG-92) of Anadolu Efes. He is American guard in his 2nd season at Anadolu Efes. In the last game Larkin recorded impressive 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course he led Anadolu Efes to another comfortable win 86-67 over the lower-ranked Olympiacos (#15, 2-5) being unquestionably team leader. In 6 games in Greece he recorded 5.8ppg and 2.2rpg this season. The last season Kuzminskas played at Armani Milano (Serie A) in Italian league where in 33 games he averaged 9.2ppg and 3.3rpg. The most exciting game of round 7 in the Euroleague took place in Villeurbanne. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Russian CSKA (5-2) to eighth ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (4-3) 67-66 on Friday evening. CSKA was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 17-14 charge of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jordan Taylor (188-89, college: Wisconsin, agency: Pensack Sports) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 assists. Nigerian center Tonye Jekiri (213-94, college: Miami, FL, agency: Network Sports International) contributed with 8 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) answered with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for CSKA. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending French champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Real Madrid and Panathinaikos. Defending Russian champion CSKA keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket is looking forward to face Crvena Zvezda (#13) in Beograd in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. CSKA will play at home against Fenerbahce (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
One of the most interesting games of round 7 was a derby match between two teams from Russia. The game took place in Sankt Petersburg where fourth ranked Khimki won against host Zenit (2-5) 87-73. It was a great evening for American center Devin Booker (205-91, college: Clemson) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. Alexey Shved helped adding 19 points and 5 assists. At the losing side American swingman Austin Hollins (196-91, college: Minnesota) responded with 25 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimki (5-2) moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Zenit at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Khimki will play against league’s leader Armani Milano at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zenit will play against Anadolu Efes (#4) in Istanbul and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Euroleague top team – Italian Armani Milano (6-1) added another victory to their record on Thursday. This time they beat eighth ranked Spanish Baskonia (3-4) 81-74. It was a quality performance for Michael Roll who led the winners and scored 12 points and 4 assists. Tornike Shengelia came up with 12 points and 9 rebounds for Baskonia in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Armani Milano have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-1 record, which they share with FC Barcelona. Loser Baskonia dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Zalgiris and Bayern. Armani Milano will meet Khimki (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Baskonia will play against Maccabi T-A (#5) and hope to secure a win.
The game in Kaunas was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (6-1) played at the court of 8th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (3-4). FC Barcelona managed to secure a 7-point victory 93-86. Cory Higgins fired 27 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Barcelona keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Milano. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris dropped to the tenth place with four games lost. FC Barcelona’s next round opponent will be Real Madrid (#8) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris will play against Olympiacos in Pireus and hope to win that game.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between German Bayern Muenchen (3-4) and Turkish Fenerbahce (2-5), which took place in Istanbul. Higher ranked Bayern Muenchen lost to seventeenth ranked Fenerbahce in a road game 82-90 on Friday. It was a very good performance for Derrick Williams who helped to win the game recording 19 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Fenerbahce moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Defending German champion Bayern Muenchen dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Fenerbahce will face higher ranked CSKA (#3) in Moscow in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Real Madrid beat Crvena Zvezda on the road 75-60. Olympiacos lost to Turkish defending champion Anadolu Efes on its own court 67-86. ALBA were outscored by Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv 78-104. Panathinaikos managed to beat Valencia at home 91-80.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 27 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists by Jordan Loyd of Valencia.

Crvena Zvezda – Real Madrid 60-75

No shocking result in a game when eleventh ranked Spanish Real Madrid (4-3) beat 13th ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (2-5) in Beograd 75-60 on Thursday. Crvena Zvezda was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 26-8 charge of Real Madrid, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Madrid made 7 blocks. It was a very good performance for guard Sergio Llull (190-87) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 assists. Cape Verdean-Spanish center Walter Tavares (220-92) contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American guard Lorenzo Brown (196-90, college: NC State) answered with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import guard Billy Baron (188-90, college: Canisius, agency: Octagon Europe) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for Crvena Zvezda. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-67. Anadolu Efes shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. ALBA Berlin was better in fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. American center Greg Monroe (211-90, college: Georgetown) answered with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian Vladimir Lucic (201-89, agency: BeoBasket) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Bayern Muenchen. The game in Kaunas was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (6-1) played at the court of 8th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (3-4). FC Barcelona managed to secure a 7-point victory 93-86. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. FC Barcelona made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. FC Barcelona outrebounded Zalgiris 34-19 including 20 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American Cory Higgins (196-89, college: Colorado, agency: Network Sports International) fired 27 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners. Montenegrin-Spanish Nikola Mirotic (207-91) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his twelve free throws !!!). Guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) produced 14 points and 5 assists and American power forward Zach LeDay (201-94, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Wasserman) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Not a big story in a game when 17th ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (1-6) lost to ninth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (4-3) in Athens 80-91 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Valencia Basket was better in third quarter 29-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Panathinaikos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Quite impressive performance for American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American guard Jordan Loyd (193-93, college: Indianapolis, agency: Inception Sports) answered with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Montenegrin power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Valencia Basket.
