American Shane Larkin (180-PG-92) put on an amazing game in the last round for league’s leader Anadolu Efes and that’s him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 27-year old playmaker had the game-high 24 points adding three rebounds and eight assists for Anadolu Efes in his team’s victory, helping them to crush Baskonia (#12, 5-7) with 25-point margin 102-77. It allowed Anadolu Efes to consolidate first place in the Euroleague. Anadolu Efes have a solid 10-2 record. In the team’s last game Larkin had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 6 attempts. It’s his second year at Anadolu Efes and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. University of Miami graduate has very impressive stats this year. Larkin is league’s best scorer averaging so far 22.2ppg. Larkin is in league’s top in and averages solid 54.1% FGP and 53.5% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was 29-year old Greek point guard Kostas Sloukas (197-PG-90) of Fenerbahce. Sloukas impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 10 assists. It was enough for Fenerbahce to edge the lower-ranked ALBA (#15, 4-8) by 5 points 107-102. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Fenerbahce managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 9th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 5-7 record. Sloukas is one of the most experienced players at Fenerbahce and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Tyrese Rice (185-PG-87) of Panathinaikos (#5). Rice got into 30-points club by scoring 41 points in the last round. He was a key player of Panathinaikos, leading his team to a 99-93 win against the lower-ranked Olympiacos (#13, 5-7). Panathinaikos needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 8 victories and 4 lost games. Rice has a very solid season. In 12 games in Euroleague he scored 11.3ppg.

The most interesting game of round 12 was a derby match between two teams from Spain. Second ranked Real Madrid won against visiting Valencia Basket (4-8) 111-99. The game without a history. Real Madrid led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Real Madrid shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 58.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Madrid made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Argentinian point guard Facundo Campazzo (181-91) who scored 8 points and 17 assists. American-Slovenian Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) chipped in 18 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jordan Loyd (193-93, college: Indianapolis, agency: Inception Sports) who recorded 21 points and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Real Madrid (9-3) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending Spanish champion maintains second position behind leader Anadolu Efes, which they share with FC Barcelona. Valencia Basket at the other side dropped to the fourteenth place with eight games lost. They share the position with ALBA and Bayern. Real Madrid is looking forward to face Olympiacos (#13) in Pireus in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Valencia Basket will play on the road against Zalgiris in Kaunas and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.

Nick Calathes contributed with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Serbian center Nikola Milutinov (213-94, agency: Octagon Europe) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for Olympiacos. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Panathinaikos have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending Greek champion (8-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CSKA and Maccabi T-A. Olympiacos at the other side dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Panathinaikos will play against higher ranked FC Barcelona (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Olympiacos will play against the league’s second-placed Real Madrid (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Russian Zenit managed to get a third victory, breaking the six-game losing streak on Friday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket in Sankt Petersburg 75-70. Worth to mention a great performance of Alex Renfroe who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was Livio Jean-Charles with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Zenit (3-9) moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Zalgiris. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost fourth consecutive game. Defending French champion keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Zenit will meet higher ranked Bayern Muenchen (#16) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against Armani Milano (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Turkish leader Anadolu Efes delivered the tenth victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Spanish Baskonia (5-7) 102-77 in Vitoria. The winners were led by Shane Larkin who scored that evening 24 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Anadolu Efes (10-2) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending Turkish champion maintains first position. Baskonia at the other side keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. Anadolu Efes’ supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Fenerbahce.
The game in Khimki was also quite interesting. Third ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (9-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Russian Khimki (6-6). FC Barcelona managed to secure a 8-point victory 102-94 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Nikola Mirotic who scored 28 points and 9 rebounds. Khimki’s coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. FC Barcelona moved-up to second place, which they share with Real Madrid. Khimki lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with six games lost. FC Barcelona will face Panathinaikos (#5) in Athens in the next round. Khimki will play at home against ALBA Berlin and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 12 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Zalgiris was defeated by CSKA in Moscow 85-82. Maccabi T-A smashed Bayern at home 77-55. Crvena Zvezda won against Milano on the opponent’s court 77-67. Fenerbahce managed to outperform ALBA in a home game 107-102.

There was no surprise in Moscow where 17th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (3-9) were edged by fifth ranked Russian CSKA (8-4) 85-82 on Thursday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Strangely Zalgiris outrebounded CSKA 43-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) who scored 19 points. Latvian point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) who recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Australian center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary’s, CA) added 12 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Five CSKA and four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Russian champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and Maccabi T-A. Zalgiris lost sixth consecutive game. No shocking result in a game in Tel-Aviv where seventh ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (8-4) smashed 16th ranked German Bayern Muenchen (4-8) 77-55 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Bayern Muenchen was better in third quarter 21-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Bayern Muenchen’s 24. The best player for the winners was Polish-Israeli Yovel Zoosman (200-98) who scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. American-Turkish point guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-93, college: Florida, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 16 points. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Four Fenerbahce and five ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Fenerbahce have a solid three-game winning streak. Panathinaikos – Olympiacos 99-93

One of the most interesting games of round 12 was a derby match between two teams from Greece. The game took place in Athens where sixth ranked Panathinaikos won against visiting Olympiacos (5-7) 99-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olympiacos. Panathinaikos made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) who led his team to a victory with 41 points (!!!) (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (197-89, college: Florida) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Serbian center Nikola Milutinov (213-94, agency: Octagon Europe) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and American swingman Brandon Paul (193-91, college: Illinois, agency: Pensack Sports) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Olympiacos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Panathinaikos have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending Greek champion (8-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CSKA and Maccabi T-A. Olympiacos at the other side dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Panathinaikos will play against higher ranked FC Barcelona (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Olympiacos will play against the league’s second-placed Real Madrid (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.

Turkish leader Anadolu Efes delivered the tenth victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Spanish Baskonia (5-7) 102-77 in Vitoria. The game without a history. Anadolu Efes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 62.5 percent from the field. Anadolu Efes players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The winners were led by American point guard Shane Larkin (180-92, college: Miami, FL) who scored that evening 24 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and Serbian guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 13 points and 9 assists. Five Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91, agency: Wasserman) did not help to save the game for Baskonia. Canadian-Lithuanian Nik Stauskas (198-93, college: Michigan) added 16 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Anadolu Efes (10-2) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending Turkish champion maintains first position. Baskonia at the other side keeps the ninth place with seven games lost.
