Steven Dodson, 47, a Greater Naples Officials Association baseball umpire, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 7, 2017. Dodson started umpiring at the age of 16 for the Palm Beach Gardens Athletic Association and graduated from the Harry Wendelstedt School of umpiring in 1994. He was a mentor umpire and loved training young, new members. He worked the 2017 Florida High School Baseball State Championships and was a 20-year veteran of the Collier County Sheriffs Office, where he acquired the rank of sergeant. Dodson was known to many in the Naples, Ft. Myers and Immokalee area as a fine man who loved his family and the game of baseball.
