Flamengo thought everything was going to be settled quickly. A year and a half after the departure of Gerson (25 years old) in Marseille, the carioca club wanted to take advantage of the downgrading of the Brazilian under the orders of Igor Tudor (6 tenures in Ligue 1 this season) to bring him back to the country. But for several weeks, the case dragged on.
The reason is simple: Olympique de Marseille is ready to get rid of Gerson, but permanently. As a reminder, the Phocaeans hold 80% of the player’s rights, but Flamengo only offers to buy back part of this percentage. What OM categorically refuses. Since then, everything has been blocked.
Flamengo facing a wall
Without Gerson leaving, OM do not have the necessary cash to do what they want in the winter transfer window. Jorge Sampaoli and Sevilla FC have declared themselves interested, but the €20 million claimed by OM is a brake. And it could well be that Flamengo withdraws from the negotiations.
The Brazilian show Jovem Pan Esportes just gave new elements. Thus, OM remains inflexible on its position. The day before yesterday, the leaders of Flamengo met and visibly, pessimism took precedence. So much so that the carioca club will soon have to decide whether or not to continue to wait for a change of posture from the Marseillais.
