Frank Lampard criticises Chelsea’s fans for their offensive West Ham chant heard at Southampton

Chelsea chant about West Ham “pikeys”

Chelsea fans are known for singing the following chant at matches.

Frankie Lampard,
Frankie Lampard,
Oh Frankie Lampard,
Oh Frankie Lampard,
Scored 200 against the Pikeys…

Filling in the blanks, the chant is an obvious dig at West Ham United.

Lampard, who is Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, scored his 200th Blues goal against West Ham.

Of course, Lampard played for West Ham before joining Chelsea.

It should also be stressed that the term “pikeys” is offensive.

It’s often used as a racial slur against the travelling community.

Chelsea’s fans sing their offensive West Ham chant vs Southampton

During Chelsea’s 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday in the Premier League, sections of the away support were heard singing the aforementioned chant in the stands.

What Frank Lampard said about the chant at Southampton

After the Southampton game, Frank Lampard was asked for his thoughts of the offensive Chelsea chant.

Lampard condemned Chelsea’s supporters, saying:

None of us want it. I’ve said this before here.

I will always back the Chelsea fans in terms of how they support us.

But we don’t want to have chants and stuff that are discriminatory to anyone. I think we all need to look at it.

It is a wider problem than Chelsea, without a doubt, but it should not stop us talking about it.

Southampton 1 – Chelsea 4

Chelsea may have failed to record another clean sheet, however the Blues picked up another vital win at St Mary’s.

Tammy Abraham, who suffered a knock in the second half, opened the scoring for the Blues.

Mason Mount doubled the lead, before Danny Ings scored on the half hour.

A goal from N’Golo Kante restored Chelsea’s 2-goal cushion at the break.

Sub Michy Batshuayi scored a late fourth to wrap up the win.
