Fresh from the recent NBL Next Gen & NBA Global Camps, promising local young gun Daniel Grida will join the Hawks for the 2018-19 Season, bringing talent, youth & enthusiasm to the club.
“To be signed in the NBL means everything to me, to sign as a pro is everything I have worked towards.” Grida said “I have a respect for the work ethic of the Illwarra Hawks, there is so much passion for Basketball in the Illawarra and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
The 6’5” young swingman has trained at the AIS in their Centre of Excellence program (CoE), and participated in the last two NBL Next Gen Camps, which proved to be a great stepping stone into his professional career.
Daniel’s pathway into the NBL is a great endorsement of the Next Gen Camp and the collaboration between the NBL and Basketball Australia. Jeremy Loeliger, NBL CEO said of Grida signing “Next Gen gives young players like Daniel an opportunity to demonstrate their talent in front of NBL clubs in a highly organised and professional setting and I’m sure we are going to see many more young players like him make their way on to NBL rosters in the years to come. “
With the roster nearing completion, the Illawarra Hawks are excited about the season to come, with a promising team to hit the court this year.
“We are super excited to be able to bring Daniel into our team. Daniel is a very talented and a highly sort after guard who played at the Centre of Excellence for the past 2 seasons.” Hawks Head Coach Rob Beveridge added.
“Daniel is an athletic scoring guard who can play either the 2 or 3 spots where he lead the CoE with 16.4 points, 4 rebounds and shot the 3point shot at 39%. Daniel is an incredible competitor and is one of the hardest working young players I have seen in many years and am sure that he will be very well received by the Illawarra fans.” added Beveridge.
