The former Sydney Kings big man will link up with the Clippers next month for the annual Las Vegas event as he looks to secure a contract for the upcoming NBA season.

Speaking with NBL Media this morning from his training base in Irvine, California, Humphries said he’s looking forward to making the most of his next NBA opportunity.

“I was very excited about the idea of playing Summer League this year,” Humphries explained.

“Then when my agent (Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports) told me we were going to be with the Clippers and we have a really solid opportunity to be with the Clippers for the rest of the year I just got even more excited.”

Humphries played five games for the Atlanta Hawks to close out the 2018-19 regular season, logging 11 minutes per game and making one start.

That opportunity came on the back of productive season in the G League with Atlanta’s affiliate team, the Erie BayHawks, where the 21-year-old averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds per game.

Across his final seven games for the BayHawks Humphries averaged a double-double, putting up 16 points and 10 boards per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field.

Having re-ignited his love for basketball over the past twelve months, the 7-footer will head to Vegas next month looking to take yet another step in his burgeoning career.

“A two-way deal is a very realistic goal for me to set for after Summer League,” Humphries said.

“That being said, I need to play well at Summer League and I need to be really solid for them to give me that.”

Humphries went undrafted in 2017 after two seasons at the University of Kentucky.

He then began his professional career in the NBL with the Kings where he was named 2018 Rookie of the Year before a brief stint in Serbia with FMP Belgrade.

Now, after dipping his toes in the NBA waters, Humphries is hoping to fully dive in to the world’s top league.

“You get that small taste and you want to get used to it so there’s motivation through that,” he said.

“But honestly, as awesome as that opportunity with the Hawks at the end of the year was – and as much as it’s a motivation to get back to that point – I’m just motivated to be able to play now with no pressures. I’m just loving the game.”

The 2019 NBA Summer League will take place in Las Vegas from July 5-15 and will involve all 30 NBA teams as well as national squads from China and Croatia.
