Versatile swingman Sunday Dech has been announced as the newest player signed to the Illawarra Hawks on a two-year deal which will see him at the Club until the end of the 2020/21 season.
The move to the Hawks comes after Dech played a crucial role as the nominated replacement player for the Championship winning Perth Wildcats last season.
Despite only appearing in 12 games across the season, the talented 25-year-old was awarded the Coaches’ Award at the Wildcats MVP Ball across the weekend and was sought after by multiple clubs in the League before ultimately choosing the Hawks.
Previous to this season, Dech spent several years in the US collegiate system playing for both Metro State and Barry University. At Metro State (a college with a history of honing talented Australian NBL basketball players like Mitch McCarron and Nick Kay), Dech averaged 14 points per game, 7 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
Hawks’ Head Coach, Matt Flinn is very excited by the recent signing with Dech’s off-court professionalism, dedication and character being a big drawcard for the club.
“This is a club that prides itself on creating opportunities for players and Sunday has shown great faith in us, and myself as a coach, by making the move” he stated.
Dech joins a Hawks roster that includes Todd Blanchfield, Tim Coenraad, AJ Ogilvy, Daniel Grida, Emmett Naar and Angus Glover.
