LSU, Missouri enter Week 2 college softball Power 10 rankings
College softball continued on for a second week, offering just as many big games and dramatic finishes as opening weekend. Here are my Power 10 rankings after Week 2.
1. Oklahoma | LW: 1
Oklahoma stays on top after moving to 9-0 to start the season.
BOOMER: The pivotal moments that have defined Oklahoma softball’s rise to dominance
2. Georgia | LW: 4
The Dawgs and Texas feel interchangeable in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, but I put Georgia up at two after a statement 20-10 win over Florida State, among four convincing wins at the Clearwater Invitational that included UCLA, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin. Georgia is looking good.
3. Texas | LW: 3
Texas picked up two huge wins by a run over Tennessee by a run and Stanford. Freshman Kayden Henry had a show-out weekend with five hits, three runs scored, four RBIs and a multi-homer game. The offense is looking strong.
HOOK EM: No. 5 Texas softball belts two grand slams in 16-0 rout of No. 8 UCLA
4. Washington | LW: 5
The Huskies also went undefeated at the Clearwater Invitational with wins over Wisconsin, Kentucky and Minnesota.
5. Tennessee | LW: 2
Tennessee picked up two losses in Clearwater, losing 1-0 to Stanford and 2-1 to Texas.
PAST RANKINGS: Preseason
6. Duke | LW: 6
Duke stays at No. 6 after picking up four more wins over the weekend.
7. LSU | LW: NR
Hello, LSU. The Tigers enter my Power 10 at No. 7 after moving to 8-0 on the season. LSU is clutch in the big moments with walk-off victories in back-to-back games over Northwestern and Oklahoma State. The Tigers keep coming back from behind and pulling out wins, and Sydney Berzon moved to 3-0 in the circle.
8. Oklahoma State | LW: 7
Oklahoma State slides a spot to eighth after that narrow loss to LSU and another defeat to Georgia.
9. Missouri | LW: NR
Missouri enters my Power 10 at No. 9. The Tigers are now 10-0 and had a win over Clemson in Week 1.
10. Stanford | LW: 9
The Cardinal performed well enough at the Clearwater Invitational to hang on to a Power 10 slot. They lost to Florida State and Texas but pulled out a big win over Tennessee. NiJa Canady had a dominant outing against the Vols lineup.
Dropped out: Florida State (8), Clemson (10)
That’s my Power 10 after Week 2. Let me know your thoughts and how you would order the top 10 softball teams in the country.
