Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson does not agree with Andy Ruiz’s decision to slim down for his rematch with Anthony Joshua.
The second bout takes place on December 7th in Saudi Arabia.
In the first bout, back in June, Ruiz stepped in on a few weeks notice and dropped Joshua four times to secure a seventh round stoppage and captured the WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO world titles.
The second time around, both boxers are slimming down.
Joshua is cutting down on some of his muscles mass, and Ruiz is cutting away some of his fat.
Tyson does not agree with Ruiz’s decision to slim down. He believes Ruiz should use the same formula that got him the big win.
Tyson told Parimatch: “I just don’t think that makes any sense [for Ruiz to slim down].
“But everybody has their own thing, their vanity gets the best of them, they say ‘Hey, I wanna look good doing this stuff’, I don’t know.
“But I’m a believer that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. The only thing Ruiz has to do is do what he did last fight. That’s all he has to live off of, from his memories, so to speak, from the last fight.”
But in a recent interview, Ruiz denied some of that talk that he’s taking off a lot of weight.
According to the Mexican-American boxer, he expects to cut down around eight pounds at most.
“Me? People are saying I lost too much weight, I won’t be strong, he will move me around,” Ruiz said. “I am losing eight pounds from what I weighed on June 1. I’ll still be the same, I’ll still be strong.
“AJ has always been in shape. He has always looked really good, really cut up.”
