Australian basketball legend and Perth Wildcats assistant coach Matt Nielsen is no lock to return to the Cats sidelines after their championship win.
Speaking to The Weekend West, Nielsen indicated that he would be heading to the US as he assesses his options after winning his third championship as an assistant coach in Perth.
“I’m looking to make a decision over the next couple of weeks,” Nielsen told The Weekend West. “I’ll look at all the things that are around.”
After re-signing with Perth, head coach Trevor Gleeson stated that Nielsen was ready to step into a head coaching role.
Nielsen has served as Gleeson’s lead assistant since 2015. After retiring as a player, he spent time with the San Antonio Spurs in a Player Development role.
