It had been predicted for some time now that German international Boateng was set to make the move to the Parc des Princes this summer, having made clear his intention to seek a new challenge ahead of the coming season.

PSG and Manchester United were the two clubs most heavily-linked touted as potential destinations, with the former having taken a clear lead in the race for the stopper over the last couple of weeks, having even clinched an agreement with Boateng over the terms of a contract.

However, a deal with Bayern was harder to come by, with the Bavarians known to be holding out for a fee of at least 50 million Euro.

As such, with Boateng set to turn 30 in a few weeks’ time, and the World Cup winner having become increasingly injury-prone over recent seasons, PSG have today turned their attention elsewhere.

Prodigious talent

In an absolute bolt from the blue earlier this afternoon, reports emerged that the capital giants were on the verge of clinching a deal for highly-regarded Schalke defender Thilo Kehrer.

Kehrer, a versatile 21-year-old German youth international who is generally deployed as a central defender but can also play as a full-back or even in a defensive midfield role, came up through the youth ranks of Schalke, before breaking into the club’s first-team in 2016.

After being eased into his role over his debut campaign with Die Knappen, Kehrer went on to establish himself as an integral part of the club’s backline last season, starting 27 of Schalke’s 34 Bundesliga fixtures as Domenico Tedesco’s men finished in 2nd-place in the German top-flight.

On the move

But, after being eyed up by some of Europe’s biggest clubs already this summer, Kehrer is now all set for a departure from the Arena AufSchalke, after French powerhouse PSG agreed to splash out a reported 37 million Euro on his signature.

The youngster’s imminent move to Paris was confirmed by Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel a short time ago, who also revealed that Kehrer, who’s contract with the Germans is set to expire next summer, was in fact set to extend his deal with Die Knappen, before PSG’s emergence:

‘Without an offer of the dimension that PSG has given us, Thilo would have certainly extended.’

‘We have basically agreed on a contract with Paris.’

‘The transfer will have an economic significance that Schalke 04 can not refuse.’
