Southampton vs Manchester City
Southampton play host to Man City on Sunday as they look to bounce back from Thursday’s defeat to West Ham.
The Saints had a poor start to the season and looked almost certain to be relegated under Mark Hughes.
However, since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over they have looked a completely different side.
In his second game as Saints boss Hasenhuttl ended Arsenal’s 22-match unbeaten run with a 3-2 win for Southampton.
Southampton would then go to Huddersfield and come away with a 3-1 win.
However, they would lose 2-1 to an in-form West Ham side on Thursday.
As for Manchester City, they are experiencing somewhat of a crisis in recent games.
Man City had a superb start to the season but would finally lose a league game vs Chelsea on December 8th.
Since that defeat to Chelsea Man City have been in poor form and have lost their last two league games vs Crystal Palace and Leicester.
As a result, Man City are now seven points behind league leaders, Liverpool.
Southampton injury update
Michael Obafemi will not feature for Southampton this weekend after he picked up an injury in training during the week.
However, Southampton do have some good news as Emile Hojbjerg looks set to go straight back into the starting eleven after serving a one-match ban.
Hojbjerg has been a key member of Southampton’s side since Hasenhuttl took over.
The midfielder captained the Saints in Hasenhuttl’s first three games, during which he got one assist.
On Hojbjerg returning Hasenhuttl had this to say:
“I think we missed him. He was very important player the last few games.”
