Manchester United, Ajax, FC Porto and Tottenham have already secured their place in the last eight.

Heading into the second leg Man City had a 3-2 lead with three key away goals.

City were, at one point, 2-1 down in Germany but late goals from Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane meant Pep Guardiola’s side started the reverse fixture with a great chance of qualifying.

Aguero and Guardiola dominate German sides

The second leg got off to a much slower start than the first with neither side registering a shot on target until the 30th minute.

However, the final 15 minutes of the first half certainly heated up.

Bernardo Silva would be brought down in the Schalke penalty area. After a VAR review, Sergio Aguero would step up and convert coolly.

Ilkay Gundogan, Raheem Sterling and Aguero would then link up well for City’s second of the evening.

Leroy Sane then go in on the action making it 3-0 to City in the 43rd minute.

City continued their impressive form in the second half with Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva adding four more goals.

After City’s dominant display vs Schalke, two impressive stats have come to light.

The stats behind City’s  win

After his brace on Tuesday, Aguero has now scored 11 goals in seven games against German opposition in the UCL.

Pep Guardiola has also now won all six of his home games against German sides, scoring 28 and conceding two.

Manchester City’s win over Schalke was also the 10th time this season they have scored five-plus goals in a game.
