Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise took place in Zaragoza where host Zaragoza (8-3) beat league’s leader Real Madrid (9-2) 84-67 on Sunday evening. Zaragoza dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Real Madrid’s 24 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Zaragoza looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Radovic (208-91, agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Icelandic center Tryggvi Hlinason (215-97) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. American-Azerbaijani Jaycee Carroll (188-83) produced 14 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zaragoza maintains third place with 8-3 record behind leader FC Barcelona. Defending champion Real Madrid still keeps top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by FC Barcelona who have the same record. Real Madrid will play next round against strong Burgos trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zaragoza will try to continue on its current victory against sixteenth ranked Movil Estudiantes in Madrid.

Bottom-ranked Real Betis managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Real Betis outleveled sixteenth-ranked Movil Estudiantes in Sevilla 88-66. It’s especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference suggests that Real Betis is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It was a great evening for Demitrius Conger who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points. Philip Scrubb responded with 19 points and 6 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Betis (3-8) moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes and Manresa. Movil Estudiantes lost their fifth game in a row. Real Betis will meet higher ranked Blusens Monbus (#13) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. They dropped to the thirteenth position with seven games lost. FC Barcelona will try to continue on its current victory against seventeenth ranked La ICL Manresa on the road.
Bottom-ranked Real Betis managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Real Betis outleveled sixteenth-ranked Movil Estudiantes in Sevilla 88-66. It’s especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference suggests that Real Betis is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It was a great evening for Demitrius Conger who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points. Philip Scrubb responded with 19 points and 6 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Betis (3-8) moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes and Manresa. Movil Estudiantes lost their fifth game in a row. Real Betis will meet higher ranked Blusens Monbus (#13) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Movil Estudiantes will play against Zaragoza and will have a slim chance for a victory.
A very interesting game took place in Manresa. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 15th ranked UCAM Murcia (4-7) to seventeenth ranked La ICL Manresa (3-8) 93-92 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Luka Mitrovic who led the winners and scored 20 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. La ICL Manresa moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes and Real Betis. UCAM Murcia lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with seven games lost. La ICL Manresa’s next round opponent will be league’s leader FC Barcelona at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Other games of round 11 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Fuenlabrada was crushed by Gran Canaria in Las Palmas 102-78. Burgos beat Unicaja at home 77-60. Obradoiro lost to Valencia on the opponent’s court 76-86. Andorra managed to outperform Baskonia in a home game 97-82. RETAbet BB recorded a loss to Joventut on the road 97-86.

Gran Canaria – Fuenlabrada 102-78

There was no surprise in Las Palmas where 13th ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (4-7) was crushed by eighth ranked Gran Canaria (6-5) 102-78. They made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Gran Canaria outrebounded Baloncesto Fuenlabrada 36-17 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for international forward Javier Beiran (200-87) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) accounted for 18 points for the winning side. Five Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria’s coach Fotis Katsikaris felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Marc Garcia (198-96) came up with 23 points and the former international point guard Tomas Bellas (185-87) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in the defeat. Gran Canaria moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Andorra and Tenerife. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Gran Canaria’s next round opponent will be Unicaja Malaga (#9) on the road. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will play against Valencia Basket (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked FC Barcelona as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader’s (Real Madrid) loss. FC Barcelona smashed 6th ranked CB Canarias at home 103-71. FC Barcelona dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to CB Canarias’ 36 and made 21-of-23 charity shots (91.3 percent) during the game. FC Barcelona forced 21 CB Canarias turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. CB Canarias was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points. The former international Nikola Mirotic (208-91) contributed with 11 points for the winners. Four FC Barcelona players scored in double figures. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) answered with 8 points and 9 rebounds and Brazilian-Italian point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83) added 10 points and 5 assists in the effort for CB Canarias. Round in Liga Endesa means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Zaragoza where host Zaragoza (8-3) beat league’s leader Real Madrid (9-2) 84-67 on Sunday evening. Zaragoza dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Real Madrid’s 24 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Zaragoza looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Radovic (208-91, agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Icelandic center Tryggvi Hlinason (215-97) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Crvena Zvezda – Valencia 76:73

Crvena Zvezda earned the fourth win in Euroleague regular season. They prevailed against visiting Valencia in a tough game on Thursday night. Lorenzo Brown (196-G-90, college: NC State) scored key four points late in regulation to propel the Serbian powerhouse to the win. He finished with 19 points for the hosts.
Valencia stayed in front throughout the first half. The Spanish team led by two points after ten minutes 17:19. They extended their lead to as many as 4 points at the big break 41:37. But Crvena Zvezda turned things around in the third quarter. They used a 23:10 rally to snatch a 60:51 advantage at the final break. Valencia denied the deficit in the fourth quarter and regained a 71:69 lead with under three minutes remaining. But Lorenzo Brown stepped up for the home side in the late stages of the game to secure the win for Crvena Zvezda. Branko Lazic (195-SG-89, agency: BeoBasket) delivered 14 points for the winners. Bojan Dubljevic (205-C/F-91, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Valencia.

The 23-year old player had a double-double of 35 points and 15 rebounds, while his team beat Boet (#11, 3-6) 88-83. Alfinden is placed at 8th position in Spanish EBA. Alfinden is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-6 record. In the team’s last game Malo had a remarkable 84.6%…

It’s his second year at Alfinden and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Jose Malo averages this season 12.7ppg and 5.6rpg.

The second best player in last round’s games was 33-year old Ukrainian Anton Savitski (196-F-86) of Ardoi. Savitski had a very good evening with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Ardoi was edged by the lower-ranked Goierri (#14, 1-7) 93-92. This loss caused Ardoi to drop to 6th position in A-A. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 5-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Savitski is one of the most experienced players at Ardoi and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Matthew Dahlen (201-F-95) of league’s second-best Pas Pielagos. Dahlen showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, thirteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Pas Pielagos, leading his team to a 91-75 easy win against the lower-ranked Santurtzi (#15, 1-8). Pas Pielagos is closer and closer to top of the standings in A-A. They will still need more victories. But 7-1 record is not that bad… Dahlen has a very solid season. In 8 games in Spain he scored 14.4ppg. He also has 8.3rpg and FGP: 58.4%.
