Experienced Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Kikanovic (211-C-88, agency: BeoBasket) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for OGM Orman and that’s him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 31-year old center had a double-double of 29 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team crushed, the league’s bottom-ranked team Buyukcekmece (#15, 0-3) with 20-point margin 84-64. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. OGM Orman is placed at 12th position in Turkish BSL. OGM Orman is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. Kikanovic turned to be OGM Orman’s top player in his first season with the team. Kikanovic has impressive league stats. He is league’s best scorer averaging so far 28.3ppg. Kikanovic is in league’s top in rebounds (5th best: 8.0rpg) and averages solid 64.8% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young international forward Berkan Durmaz (206-F-97) of Tofas. Durmaz impressed basketball fans with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course Tofas cruised to a 81-69 relatively comfortable win over Gaziantep (1-2). The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let’s wait for the next round. Durmaz is well-known by Tofas fans and he already established his position as one of team’s most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Bonzie Colson Jr. (196-F-96) of Darussafaka (#9). Colson Jr. scored 26 points. He was a key player of Darussafaka, leading his team to a 98-61 easy win against ITU BB (#16, 0-3). Darussafaka needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 1 lost game. Colson Jr. has a very solid season. In 3 games in Turkey he scored 14.7ppg.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Turk Telekom (2-1) in Ankara on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Fenerbahce (3-0) 75-59. The best player for the winners was Greek point guard Kostas Sloukas (197-90) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. French guard Leo Westermann (198-92, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Nick Johnson (191-92, college: Arizona) who recorded 11 points. Turk Telekom’s coach Burak Goren rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Fenerbahce’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Acibadem.
Another exciting game was between Pinar Karsiyaka and Bursaspor where Pinar Karsiyaka (3-0) beat Bursaspor (2-1) on the road 85-77. It was a good game for American power forward Jordan Morgan (203-91, college: Michigan) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Tony Taylor contributed with 14 points and 5 assists for the winners. British center Gabriel Olaseni (211-91, college: Iowa) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for Bursaspor. Pinar Karsiyaka will play against ITU BB (#16) in Istanbul in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bursaspor will play on the road against OGM Orman (#12) in Ankara and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of Anadolu Efes (2-1) against Bandirma (2-1) on Sunday night. Visiting Anadolu Efes was defeated by Bandirma in Balikesir 84-66. It was a great evening for Ian Hummer who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Chris Singleton with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bandirma will meet Besiktas (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Anadolu Efes will play against Buyukcekmece (#15) and hope to secure a win.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Istanbul. Local ITU BB (0-3) was outscored by Darussafaka (2-1) 98-61. It was a quality performance for Bonzie Colson-Jr who led the winners and scored 26 points (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Darussafaka’s next round opponent will be Gaziantep (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. ITU BB will play against Pinar Karsiyaka (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The best player for the winners was Zach Auguste who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Besiktas’ coach Dusko Ivanovic tested ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Galatasaray will face Afyon Bld (#13) in Afyonkarahisar in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Besiktas will play at home against Bandirma and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Afyon defeated Bahcesehir in Afyonkarahisar 87-82. Gaziantep was beaten by Tofas at home 69-81. OGM Orman destroyed Buyukcekmece on the opponent’s court 84-64.

Bahcesehir – Afyon 82-87

But Acibadem was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Afyonkarahisar 87-82 on Saturday night. Afyon Bld made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Acibadem was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American point guard Corey Davis (185, college: Houston) who scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Nigerian power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Network Sports International) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists and the other American import Sean Armand (196-91, college: Iona, agency: Network Sports International) added 21 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Acibadem’s coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Afyon Bld will face Galatasaray (#7) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Acibadem’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Fenerbahce.

We bring you last week’s top performances from Turks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
   #1. This week’s number one is an international point guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-93, agency: BeoBasket, college: Florida, currently plays in Euroleague). He could not help Maccabi T-A (0-2) in their last game. Despite Wilbekin’s very good performance Maccabi T-A was edged 86-85 on the road by the leading Real Madrid. He was the top scorer with 22 points. Wilbekin also added made 4 passes and 3 steals in 27 minutes on the court. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Wilbekin has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 1.5rpg, 3.5apg, 2.0spg, 3FGP: 35.3% in two games he played so far. Wilbekin is a naturalized American. Despite he played previously for the USA U19 national team, Wilbekin is currently a member of the Turkish senior national team. He used to play for Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul in Turkish league.
   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Kenan Sipahi (197-95, currently plays in Spain). Sipahi was not able to help Real Betis in their last game. Despite his good performance his team was edged 71-69 at home by the lower-ranked (#3) Zaragoza. Sipahi was the second best scorer with 12 points in 26 minutes. It’s Sipahi’s first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 66.7%(14-21) and FT: 14.3% in four games. Sipahi has a dual citizenship: Kosovan and Turkish. Former Tofas Bursa starter played for the Turkish national team in 2018.
   #3. The Turkish player who performed third best last week abroad was former U20 international forward Kerem Kanter (208-95, college: Xavier, currently plays in EuroCup). He managed to help Divina Seguros Juventut Badalona to win against the closely-ranked Brescia (1-1) 81-68 in the Eurocup in Tuesday night’s game. Kanter scored only 2 points. Divina Seguros Juventut Badalona (1-1) is placed third in group C. But the season is still in it’s first stage and everything can happen. Kanter’s overall stats this season are: 4.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 2FGP: 75.0%. He played for the Turkish U20 national team five years ago.
   #4. Center Mutlu Demir (211-87, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for GET Vosges (2-3) in their game against La Charite (3-2) in the French NM1 (third division), despite his very good performance last Saturday. Demir was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. But the ninth-placed GET Vosges (2-3) lost 71-80 in La Charite to the higher-ranked (#6) La Charite in the Group B. But there are still lots of games to play and it’s a long way to go. This year Demir has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg and 2.6rpg in five games. He used to play for the Turkish national team back in 2009.

The list of other players, who all have Turkish passport but never been selected to any of Turkish national teams:

   #1. Reginald Becton (206-C-91, currently plays in Japan) could not help Yokohama BC (1-2) in their last game on Monday. Despite Becton’s very good performance the fourth-placed Yokohama BC (1-2) were defeated 81-75 on the road by the leading Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo in the Central group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 22 rebounds. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It’s Becton’s first year with the team. Becton has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.0ppg, 14.3rpg, 1.3apg and 2.7bpg.

   #2. Elvan Iljazi (203-SF-93, currently plays in Kosovo) was not able to help one of league’s weakest teams Bashkimi (0-0) in their game against Xhebrailat (4-0) in the Kosovan Superliga. Iljazi did not beat the league record on Thursday evening. He recorded only 3 points and blocked 2 shots. Bashkimi was badly defeated 85-69 at home by the leading Xhebrailat. Iljazi’s overall stats this season are: 6.7ppg and 2.0rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Turkish and Kosovan.

Ersan Ilyasova (208-F-87) plays for Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA
Enes Kanter (211-C-92) plays for Boston Celtics in the NBA
Cedi Osman (204-F-95) plays for Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA
Mert Akay (198-G-0) plays for Dynamic VP in Serbian KLS
Okben Ulubay (200-G/F-97) plays for FMP in Serbian KLS
Cemal Nalga (213-C-87) plays for Voluntari in Romanian Liga Nationala
Serhat Cetin (197-G/F-86) plays for Voluntari in Romanian Liga Nationala
Abdurrahman Circiroglu (193-PF-97) plays for Vilsbiburg in German Regionalliga
