L’Equipe are today reporting that West Ham are close to sealing a deal for 22-year-old defender Issa Diop from Toulouse.
Diop is set to cost West Ham somewhere in the region of £22 million.
Diop began his career with his current and only club Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
Diop debuted for their senior side in December of 2015 and has gone on to make 95 appearances for Toulouse, in which he has scored six and assisted three.
Despite being just 22 Diop has already shown signs he can be a top quality defender.
His 2017/18 season was particularly impressive. He played 34 league games last season, scoring three and assisting one.
This impressive season has now put Diop on the Hammers radar and it looks as though Diop is now set for London.
£75 million ‘war chest’
West Ham have recently appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss and Pellegrini is set to be given up to £75 million in order to bring some fresh legs to West Ham.
When appointed West Ham boss, Pellegrini stated:
“West Ham had a difficult season last season and I hope that next season we are going to play football that will delight the fans.
“I always play attacking football and we must try to reach important targets in the season.
“I am excited about this project. My mentality is always to have a winning mentality and I will hope that I can repeat here what I did with all my clubs here in Europe, where I have always arrived in European competition.”
Given his ability, Diop could well be the perfect signing for Pellegrini’s new look West Ham side and could join the likes of Felipe Anderson who is close to joining the Hammers.
