The Perth Wildcats today announced the re-signing of vice-captain and three-time NBL Champion, Greg Hire.

Hire began his career with the Wildcats in 2010 as a development player, and has since gone on to play over 200 games and win three Championships with his hometown team.

He has played an integral role as a member of the club’s core throughout his time in the NBL, and will again lead the second-unit with experience and intent this season.

“I’m extremely excited,” said Hire.

“It’s a pretty exciting time for the club.”

“We’ve had a lot of new guys coming in, so I look forward to building on the culture that the club currently has.”

Hire has played in 209 NBL games, and last season became just the fifth Western Australian to play 200 games with the Perth Wildcats.

The 30-year-old has played in 29 Finals games, and says he is looking to ensure he passes on the values and experience that have helped him throughout his career.

“That’s been my identity for a number of seasons.

“Irrespective of how many minutes I play, or the impact I have on the court, I know I can play a valuable role in terms of imparting what it means to play for this club.

“I’ve been very fortunate to be a vice-captain for coming up on five seasons; to be bestowed that position you have to make sure you give back.”

Hire’s role in the WA community is not just limited to the court, with the Wildcats vice-captain having recently been named Western Australian of the Year in the youth category for his several charities and initiatives to help provide mentoring and promote mental wellbeing for at-risk youth.

With the signing of Hire, the Wildcats now have one roster position remaining for the coming season.

He joins Bryce Cotton, Nick Kay, Mitch Norton, Tom Jervis, Damian Martin, Angus Brandt, Jesse Wagstaff, Clint Steindl and Rhys Vague on the roster ahead of the 2018/19 NBL season.
