France claimed the first win at the 2019 World Cup in China. They held off European counterparts Germany in Group G. Evan Fournier (198-SG-92) delivered 26 points and 10 rebounds to pace les Bleues.
The game was mostly decided in the first half. France got off to a furious start. They held Germany to just 4 points in the opening period to take a 12-point lead. France extended the margin at 16-point mark at the big break 36:20. Germany however managed to come back into this one after the long break. They sank 30 points in the third period to pull within 9 points. Germany cut the distance just two points in the final seconds. But Evan Fournier calmly sank two free throws to seal the win for France. Amath M’Baye (206-PF-89, college: Oklahoma) accounted for 21 points in the victory. Johannes Voigtmann (211-C-92) responded with 25 points for Germany. Dennis Schroeder (181-PG-93) had 23 points in the loss.

Gregg Popovich team snatched a narrow 17:14 lead ten minutes into the game. They dropped 26 points in the second period to stretch the lead to as many as 14 points 43:29. USA did not loosen the grip in the second half. They extended the margin at 18 points heading into the fourth period and never looked back en route to the first win….
